Road safety is added to the already numerous fields for which research and innovations are developed by the students of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, who have been awarded scholarships in the UPCT Chairs Network thanks to the incorporation of the Palazón Systems Chair 'Road Technology Research, SP' .
The agreement for the new chair was signed today by the Rector of the Polytechnic, Alejandro Díaz, and by Fulgencio Palazón and María José Palazón, administrators of the Murcia company of systems design and invention.
"It is a new company profile in the Chairs Network," said Vice-Rector Alejandro Pérez.
"We are very excited to have a presence in the University and to collaborate with other chairs," said the entrepreneurs.
The Murcia company has created a movable drawer that is placed under the vertical signs to avoid serious damages in the vehicles in case of impact.
The system reduces passive safety in signage, which is required by European Union regulations, as it does not require changes in the foundations or in the signals themselves.
In the Region of Murcia has already been applied in a roundabout of Mazarrón and there is a project to implement it in 10,000 signs in Belgium.
"They develop technological products that solve problems and are easily internationalized, which agrees very well with the UPCT spirit," the rector, Alejandro Díaz, praised.
The company also markets enclosures to prevent copper theft in public facilities and is working to address the problem of sand collapse on the AVE highways between Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, as well as to cover guardrails to protect Motorcyclists.
The Chair will offer two ten-month fellowships for UPCT students to apply their knowledge in the design of mechanical road safety systems.
Training activities and promotion of innovation among students of Mechanical Engineering are other objectives of the agreement signed.
The students will carry out studies and tests for new technological developments and the Faculty of Sciences of the Company will also contribute their knowledge in business management, as explained by those responsible for Sistemas Palazón.
