Archaeologist Ivan Negueruela presents the second edition of his book Murcia by a Mitra (24/05/2017)

The Palacio Consistorial has been the venue for the second edition of the book 'Murcia por una Mitra', by the archaeologist, art historian and director of the National Museum of Underwater Archeology (ARQUA), on Wednesday 24 May. Iván Negueruela, and that has a prologue signed by the mayor of Cartagena, José López.

Also present at the presentation were the Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón;

And the mayor of Transparencia, María José Soler.

In addition, this new edition has a new design on the cover, by Ángel Tarifa, as well as other novelties.

A print run of 1,200 has been edited, of which, as explained by the first mayor of Cartagena, a total of 800 will be sent to different personalities and institutions, among them Pope Francisco, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, all The cardinals of the world, bishops of Spain and pastors of the diocese, the Vatican Library, the National Library, history departments of research centers and universities, diocesan formation centers and regional political representatives, among others.

Although talk of events in the thirteenth century may seem "irrelevant" in the twenty-first century, López pointed out, it is in fact for the mayor of "a ballast to Cartagena", while regretting that it constitutes "injustice and Affront to our rights "and that" it will be impossible to repair the damage caused to the economy, the progress and the development of this municipality "during the last 700 years.

He assured that the book presented this Wednesday "should serve as knowledge, impulse and memory of the need to turn that reality, and to return to the path of logic, justice and truth for Cartagena," while emphasizing the importance of recovering And restore the old cathedral of the city, Santa María la Mayor, which has been in ruins since the bombing of the Civil War and which, as the author of the book has lamented, "is the only cathedral in Spain that remains in ruins ".

Finally, the first mayor of Cartagena thanked the work of Iván Negueruela, who has described "a book essential and definitive" to know the illegal transfer of the headquarters of the diocese of Cartagena to Murcia in 1291.

For his part, the author has ensured that it is not a "book of interpretation", but to look for and read documents.

The director of the Arqua recalled that "for 700 years, we have been told that the transfer from Cartagena to Murcia was authorized by the Bull of Rietti," which was issued by Pope Nicholas IV after the request of Bishop Diego de Magaz, who Claimed to be the victim of attacks in the port city.

He stressed that when the bishop requested his transfer to Murcia, the Pope asked two other abbots of the Crown of Aragon to investigate the motives of this petition but did not authorize it, since he considered that the bishop of Cartagena should remain in The city and not flee.

In this way, it has criticized that from several institutions it has been defended during the last centuries that the Bull of Rietti allowed the change of the soothes of the diocese.

In this sense, he lamented the illegality of this transfer and has ensured that the purpose of the book he has written and which has been presented its second edition after completely exhausted the first, has no political purposes and only seeks to make known this reality To Cartagena and the general public.
