Cartagena will receive this Saturday, May 20, the Drop to Drop challenge with the aim of becoming the city that receives the most blood donations.
On the occasion of this event, the mayor of the port city, José López, received this Wednesday, May 17, the coordinators and real estate agents of the MLS Region of Murcia, Pedro Nieto and Francisco José Lorenzo.
The initiative emerged in Barcelona in the real estate sector, when in 2015 the real estate agent Begoña Ballesteros in Barcelona challenged another agent working in Granada to match the amount of blood donations they had obtained in a This guy in the city, with 45 donations.
From there, as pointed out by the coordinator of the challenge in Cartagena, "this has been a non-stop" as it spread through cities throughout Spain.
In fact, this Wednesday the challenge is being held in Badajoz and, on Saturday, it will reach Cartagena and Oropesa del Mar. Cartagena is the first city in the region that hosts this event, since in Murcia it will be held after the summer.
Other cities in which it is already preparing are Gran Canaria, Almería, Madrid, Santander, Valladolid, Palencia, Jerez, Asturias and Seville.
During the meeting, Lopez has considered the Palace Hall as a "wonderful" place to carry out this campaign and has invited all Cartagena to participate and donate blood, because "the benefits come alone."
He also recalled that Cartagena is the city that traditionally more blood per capita has been donated to regional banks, which in the past was in Cartagena and now has been centralized in the regional capital.
"Donors do not look at who is given their blood, but give it to save people," said the mayor.
For his part, Pedro Nieto has agreed with the mayor since "whoever wins this challenge is every person who receives the blood."
It seeks to increase blood donations and, whenever a new challenge is carried out, coordinators from other cities also collaborate in disseminating and supporting them.
To date, the most donated event has been the one held on November 2 in Don Benito, a town in Badajoz where 230 donations were obtained.
In Cartagena this Saturday, from 10.00 to 14.00 hours, in the Palace Hall and, to facilitate access, the organization will offer two free hours of parking for all donors in the Port Parking.
The goal of this challenge in the port city is to reach at least 50 donations, something that the mayor has assured that "is going to overcome."
