This Thursday, May 18, the mayor of Cartagena, José López, the councilor for the Treasury and Interior, Francisco Aznar, and the restorer Pilar Vallalta will present the flag of the urban militias of Carlos III, from the 18th century, which has just been restored.
The event will be held in the Municipal Archive, in the old Artillery Park, starting at 11:30 hours, with a hearing where the mayor, councilman and restorer will explain to the media the details of this restoration.
This flag was for many years exposed in the room of councilmen of the Palace Hall, until by the deterioration that was suffering and the works of rehabilitation of the building, retired and saved.
At the moment it was part of the funds of the Municipal Archive and could be seen by the 4,400 people who visited the site of the old Artillery Park during the last Night of the Museums as part of the exhibition on Civil defense of Cartagena during the XVIII-XX centuries.
It is a flag of two fabrics, which required an urgent restoration.
The front face consisted of a red or crimson silk taffeta fabric embroidered with threads of silk, the underside formed by a crimson-red cotton fabric with the coat of Carlos III, painted in oil or varnish pigments (oils ) And details in gold.
The flag still retains the original wooden mast, with decoration on the lower part, red velvet and gold silver trimmed with tacks.
The toe and foot are finished with gold brass.
