The IX Solidarity Regatta 'Silver Carbide' will look for next June to raise funds with a nautical test in which about 80 boats will participate and that will bring about a thousand people to Cartagena.
This has been presented on Tuesday, May 16, the mayor of Cartagena, José López, who has announced that the race will be held from June 2 to 4 to raise funds for the association D'Genes.
Lopez has been accompanied by the first mayor of La Unión, Pedro López;
The president of the Nautical Club Portman, Blas Isaac Calventus;
The president of the Port Authority of Cartagena, Antonio Sevilla, who has also been named for this year as honorary president of the regatta;
The general director of Ports of the Autonomous Community, Salvador García;
The president of FEDER and D'Genes, Juan Carrión;
And the president of the Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia, Arturo García Pallarés, as well as members of the municipal corporation.
The councilor of Cartagena has assured that in previous editions "the importance of this test and its consolidation in the national panorama has been highlighted".
More than half of the boats come from other Autonomous Communities, such as Valenciana or Andalusia.
"Cartagena is, during those first days of June, the center of attention of sailing," said José López.
In this sense, the first mayor has also highlighted the importance and the impulse that this type of activities supposes for the nautical tourism of the area, since the arrival of boats and their crews from other communities "makes us appreciate in its Just measure its importance and transcendence ".
SOLIDARITY OF THE TRIAL
The event, which will take place at the Yatch Port Cartagena, combines solidarity and sport, since its benefits are destined each year to an association or beneficial purpose.
Thus, in the eight editions celebrated to date, the figure of 36,000 euros has been added that have been directed to different charitable projects and solidarity institutions, such as the Association of Multiple Sclerosis of Cartagena and Comarca (EMACC), which was the association to the Which was earmarked last year's revenue.
In this way, this year will be the association of rare diseases D'Genes the recipient of the aid to collaborate in its work to improve the quality and life expectancy of patients and their families.
The objective of this year, explained the president of D'Genes, is to raise a total of 10,000 euros to launch in Cartagena a Multidisciplinary Center for the treatment of rare diseases.
Carrión has expressed his gratitude to the Cartagena City Council and the Nautical Club of Portmán for choosing the association he directs as the recipient of the funds that are collected this year and explained that the project that intends to get under way in Cartagena consists of a center of Attention that will allow to offer "a portfolio of services that allow to improve the quality of life of people and families that coexist with these diseases".
At the same time, he recalled that rare diseases affect one in 2,000 inhabitants and it is estimated that there are more than 7,000 rare diseases, which means that three million people in Spain suffer from one of these diseases and that there are more than 100,000 patients In the Region of Murcia.
D'Genes has already set up a center similar to the one it plans to install in Cartagena in Totana and are advancing in the opening of another in Murcia.
Finally, Carrión recalled the message of encouragement and support that the association received this Tuesday from its ambassador, soccer player Andres Iniesta, who has invited everyone to participate in the IX Solidarity Regatta and congratulated the Portman Nautical Club for Your initiative.
For his part, Arturo García has highlighted the relevance and high competitive level of this young regatta, which is already included in the Spanish Cup of Cruises.
"This is due to the board of directors of the Sports Club of Portman," he said, while encouraging the organizers to "continue to carry out these efforts," since "each year exceeded in number of boats."
D'GENES MUNICIPAL SUPPORT
It should be remembered that the first mayor of Cartagena, together with the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, held a meeting on 1 March with the president of D'Genes, Juan Carrión, in a meeting in which also participated Blas Isaac Calventus.
That day, López transmitted to Carrión the municipal collaboration with the solidarity test, whose benefits will allow the possibility of establishing that delegation in Cartagena to directly attend to people and families living with rare diseases.
In the same way, the meeting established the bases to promote a joint work between the City and the social entity in Cartagena.
D'Genes is included nationwide within the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER).
In addition, as a member of the ERDF, the Association is part of the European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS).
