The Spanish University Championships of Badminton and Table Tennis will be held in Cartagena from 16 to 18 and from 17 to 19 May respectively.
The presentation was attended by Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, the Director General of Sports of the Catholic University San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), Pablo Rosique, and the President of the Badminton Federation of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Caparrós.
The councilman recalled that with this event Cartagena again becomes the seat of a national championship of university sports, as it was the National Championship Athletics Championship in 2016. "An event that contributes to the promotion of sport in the city and Which attract visitors for both sporting and tourist interest, "said Segado, who has invited all Cartagena to attend to enjoy high-level sport.
Two championships in which will participate 40 Spanish universities that will bring to a total of 107 athletes.
Table tennis will be hosted by the Table Tennis Pavilion located in the Barrio de Peral, where the matches will be played on May 18 between 9:00 and 20:00 and on the 19th until 14: 00 hours.
There will be 42 university athletes competing in this championship, several of them in the top 10 of the national ranking of this sport.
On the other hand 55 players will compete in the different categories of the National Badminton University Championship, which will be held at the Pavilion Cabezo de Beaza on days 17 and 18 throughout the day.
In the competition that will participate the number 1 at the national level male, Pablo Abián, three times Olympic;
And number 2 in the female category, Beatriz Corral.
Rosique wanted to thank the collaboration of the City of Cartagena in the organization of these events, "which always turns, which is a wonder."
For his part, the president of the regional federation of badminton has informed that the body will be responsible for providing the referees in addition to material, and has highlighted in the sport aspect the presence of the first racquets of this sport in the competition.
