The XXVIII Mathematical Olympiad of the Region of Murcia celebrates this Saturday 13 May its final phase in the School of Industrial Engineering of the UPCT, in the Campus Muralla del Mar, where twenty students of ESO 2nd will face the challenge of demonstrating His skills giving solution to a series of tests of logic.
The councilman of Youth, Ricardo Segado, presented Friday the event, accompanied by the president of the Mathematical Education Society of the Region of Murcia, Espinar Welcome, as organizers of the Olympics, and the director of the School of Engineering Industrial, Patricio Franco.
The tests will begin at 9.45 am, after arrival and reception of the students, and are expected to finish at 11.30 am, after which they will be offered a breakfast and a guided tour of the historic center of the city.
In addition to the 20 students from the 2nd year of ESO, who have been classified from the 500 that were presented to the district phase, the 10 students from 6th grade who are classified in their category will also visit the city.
As explained by Ricardo Segado, this Olympics is not a competitive test, it is not that objective, but to promote discipline in everyday life.
Something in which Espinar was well-known, is to make the mathematics entertaining, as something nice and a way to demonstrate each one's skills.
So, continued, Saturday Saturday is the regional culmination of the event, which will be the three students who will represent the Region of Murcia in the final phase of the Mathematical Olympiad, held from 21 to 25 June in Valladolid.
In this way, the objectives pursued with the celebration of this event are, in short, to facilitate that the students discover or increase the fondness for the resolution of problems, to foment the relations between teachers of different centers of our Autonomous Community and also of Different levels of education, to provide participants with a relaxed environment in which competitive aspects are a mere instrument to achieve the objectives, to reach society the concerns of mathematics teachers regarding the importance of this discipline in everyday life And, finally, to show the most playful aspects of mathematical work.
For his part, Patricio Franco was in favor of this type of initiatives, which would be interesting to introduce in the other courses of ESO, it is important that students have challenges to be able to overcome, something that is also done from the university so That young people are better prepared to develop professionally in society.
The closing ceremony and awards ceremony of this XXVIII Mathematical Olympiad of the Region of Murcia, attended by the Councilor for Youth, Ricardo Segado, will take place at 13.30 hours, at the auditorium of the UPCT.
