"In 20 years the autonomous cars can be used as taxis" (10/05/2017)

In about 20 years autonomous cars could start to be marketed and operated in any city.

This is at least the opinion of David Bevly, a professor at Auburn University and an expert in this type of vehicles, who participated in the UPCT the day of the Telefónica Chair.

"They will be commercialized and can be seen in services such as taxi, such as the one offered by Ãœber," said the expert, who has offered a presentation on the creativity and use of autonomous vehicles.

However, a few years earlier, it says that vehicles without drivers will already operate in cities, but only in areas that are more favorable to them, that is, on motorways or in cities where there are not too many pedestrians.

"The cities that are more controlled," he says.

For him, the development of this type of technology will be 'very favorable' for new generations, accustomed to using every kind of technology every day.

At present there are companies that are developing autonomous cars without a steering wheel, something that does not believe that will be very common in the future, since 'the ideal is that the autonomous car has a steering wheel and that although it is autonomous most of the time, Take control of him in certain circumstances'.

He also said that engineers work to ensure safety in these vehicles through the development of sensors of different nature that serve to prevent accidents and any other setback.

In the university where he teaches the teaching of engineers not only focuses on theoretical classes, but also propose challenges and competitions so that they can gain experience in the management of this type of technology and developments.
