Today I presented the First University Campus of Practices and Archaeological Training City of Cartagena that organizes and sponsors the City of Cartagena through the Culture and Heritage Area in collaboration with the University of Murcia (UMU), the National University of Studies Distance (UNED) and the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).
The Mayor of the city, José López, and the General Coordinator of Historic and Archaeological Patrimony of the City Council, María del Carmen Berrocal, have attended to explain all the details of this campus that will help students of the disciplines related to this subject can To practice archeology in the excavations of Mount Sacro.
The archaeological intervention will be carried out between 2 and 30 July and will focus on the upper terrace of Monte Sacro, in whose soils have been detected archaeological structures by recent studies of georadar.
The campus has a total of 60 places and is divided into two shifts, with 30 places for each.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS WORK
There we will work on the study of surface archaeological remains, which are between 30 and 60 cm.
Below the current level of soil, and that the hypothesis is that they belong to a Roman neighborhood of high level based on the excavations carried out in 1983 and that brought to light Roman pavements.
After the work will proceed to cover the deposit with geotextile and soil, which according to Maria del Carmen Berrocal "is the best way for the remains to breathe and remain in an environment similar to the one that has preserved them for the last 20 centuries."
The days will be divided between morning and afternoon.
In the first part of the day, practical sessions will be held, with archaeological excavations and excavation data records.
Afterwards there will be work on inventory and drawing of archaeological materials, knowledge of new technologies applied to Archeology, visits to other sites as well as theoretical sessions given by professors of recognized prestige.
Due to their specialized nature, the internships will be directed to university students who have passed at least 50% of the total credits of the degrees of History, Geography and History, Archeology and Ancient History, or that they are postgraduate or master's degrees.
REGISTRATION
The pre-enrollment to this campus must be formalized by telematic means through the web page enabled, where also is the complete information on the steps to follow, before May 28 and the registration and payment of the enrollment, once The student or student has been selected, before June 20.
The cost is 250 euros per person and includes accommodation and maintenance as well as participation in all activities that are scheduled, including planned visits.
