The course 'The cultural legacy of the Enlightenment: from the diffusion of antiquity to industrial renewal', organized by the Museo del Teatro Romano and the Cartagena City Council in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), has already opened Term of inscriptions.
The course, which is part of the Summer Courses 2017 of the UPCT, will be held from 17 to 19 July.
During the course will be approached Cultural Heritage of a historical period that left a significant imprint in the port city.
With the arrival of the Bourbons, Cartagena experienced one of the greatest urban transformations in its history and, on the occasion of the celebration of the Year of the Enlightenment in 2017, we wanted to bring the cultural legacy of this historical period from various perspectives .
Thus, the diffusion of Classical Antiquity, promoted by the young king of Naples and later King of Spain, Carlos III, will be analyzed;
The urban transformation of the city;
The influence of the new ideas in the Church of the time and its relation with the Court;
As well as popular music and literary folklore of the moment.
This is undoubtedly a period of intellectual renewal that promoted scientific knowledge, a subject that will also be addressed in the sessions of the course.
COURSE PROGRAM
The sessions, which will be held from 9:00 am to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will begin on Monday, July 17, at 9:00 am, with the talk 'Carlos III and the diffusion of Classical Antiquity', which Will impart Maria del Carmen Alonso Rodríguez, of the Project House of Diana Archaizante Pompeya.
It will be followed, from 11.00 to 12.30, 'Classic sculpture in the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando', given by the academic delegate of the Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, José María Luzón Nogué;
And from 12.30 to 2 pm, 'El Belén Napolitano, the passion of a king', offered by the Professor of Art History of the University of Murcia (UMU) and director of the Salzillo Museum, Mª Teresa Marín Torres.
In the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., the Head of Collections at the Costume Museum (CIPE), Concha Herranz Rodríguez, will talk about 'Fashion and tradition in the days of Goya' and, from 19.00 to 20.30 hours, there will be a Roundtable on 'La Diffusion of knowledge as the basis of cultural progress: Charles III and cultural patronage '.
On the other hand, on Tuesday, the sessions will begin with the professor in Archeology of the UMU, José Miguel Noguera Celdrán, who will deal 'From Pompeii to Cartagena: the sanctuaries of Isis';
At 12.00 there will be a visit to the Temple of Isis and the Barrio del Foro Romano, accompanied by the archaeologist and director of the archaeological excavations of Molinete, Mª José Madrid Balanza, and in the afternoon the professor of Physics and History of Science Of the UPCT, 'Thinking and science in the illustration', at 17.00;
Juan José Sánchez Baena, Professor of History of America at UMU and Juan María Sánchez Baena, will present 'Navigation and Illustration in Cartagena: Formation and Naval Professionalization in the Eighteenth Century' and, to conclude the July 18 program , There will be a roundtable on 'Culture and Science in the Enlightenment'.
On Wednesday 19th, the professor of the Architecture Area of ​​the Catholic University San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), José Antonio Martínez López, will begin the sessions of this day with 'Urban development and transformation in Cartagena Illustrated', at 10.00 To the Museum of the Artillery Barracks, accompanied by Martinez;
And from 12.00 to 14.00 hours, the doctor in Atropology and chronicler of Cartagena, José Sánchez Conesa, will speak of 'Customs in the eighteenth century: birthing, confraternities, diversions'.
In the afternoon, to close this course, Emeritus Professor of Art History of the UMU, Cristóbal Belda Navarro, will address 'Church and Enlightenment', after which the Round Table 'Cartagena and the Enlightenment' will be held.
The course will be developed in a total of 25 teaching hours at a price of 60 euros in the Auditorium of the Roman Theater Museum, and participants will receive a CRAU or two LRU credit.
