'The Night of the Enlightenment' is the title that gives this year's name to the Night of the Museums of Cartagena, to be held on 20 May.
This cultural event already consolidated around the world will have this year in the port city with a total of 180 events, of which 26 will be dedicated to this stage so relevant in the history of the municipality.
The mayor of the city, José López, and the councilor of Archaeological Heritage, Ricardo Segado, presented this Friday morning the program of activities for this day in which Cartagena opens its doors to culture and art and in which The scheduled events will not only occupy the night session but also the whole day, with activities such as routes, visits, children's workshops, concerts, exhibitions, dance, circus, theater, recreation ...
The museums will be open until 2:00 am on Sunday 21 and 1,000 places will be offered between the 22 routes and 16 guided tours that are planned.
Also, following the approval of the municipal petition to the Regional Administration for its declaration as Intangible Cultural Interest, there will also be activities related to Latin sailing on the coast of Cartagena: classic boat races, an exhibition at the Nautical Club of Saint Lucia and a concert in Latin sailing boat.
The Enlightenment will be the axis around which the museums, art galleries, bars and thousands of people will move in the edition of this 2017, coinciding with the 'Year of the Enlightenment', since this period marked a time of great importance In the port city in the beginnings of the Bourbon stage in the Spanish throne with the arrival of the new dynasty by its geostrategic position, which propitiated an important urban development that totally transformed the city, taking on a special relevance the figure of Carlos III.
The mayor has defined this day as "a night to enjoy in the street with friends, family and country people knowing a little more the extraordinary historical, monumental, architectural and archaeological legacy" of the city and has encouraged the public to do so.
At the Museum Night 2017 will be 35 municipal technicians, who will be supporting and organizing activities that night, and 300 volunteers to be coordinated from the Implik2 program of the Youth Department and the Student Council of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) and will collaborate in the different activities explaining outstanding pieces of the museums, informing the visitors about the program or supporting the specific tasks of that day to the staff of the museum centers.
They also join this special night with their own offer of exhibitions and performances bars and art galleries.
On the other hand, visitors who spend the night in one of the hotels in the city will enjoy a guided tour in the morning of Sunday 21 by the Cartagena de la Enlightenment directed especially for them.
Public transport will also expand its schedules on lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of urban buses and there will be a circular coach that will connect the Municipal Archaeological Museum with the Glass Museum of Santa Lucía.
The mayor of Archaeological Heritage has encouraged the participants to share their experiences in social networks through the labels #NocheMuseos #Cartagena and #NocheIlustrada and has advanced that in the different places there will be QR codes to provide the citizen with immediate and accurate information On the development of activities.
Some of the figures foreseen for this day show the magnitude of the same: 400 places in guided tours, 32 exhibitions, 9 new spaces, 43 musical performances, 18 children's workshops with 360 seats and 4 dance shows.
