On April 27th, 340 years since San Ginés de la Jara was chosen as patron of our Very Noble Very Loyal and Always Heroic city of Cartagena.
When a serious epidemic devastated the children ravaged the city and lasted from 1648 to 1676. The City Council wanted to implore the leniency of its employer, but nobody knew who it was;

But as with the name of San Ginés there were already several saints, it was decided to re-enter the name in the chanted and to get another.
What was the surprise, when San Ginés de la Jara again came out, and so on three consecutive times, finally remembering that San Ginés de la Jara was named Patron of Cartagena.

Mr. Mayor José López Martínez in the Church of Santa María de Gracia the vows of the patronage of San Gines de la Jara as Patron, and later celebrated this event in the very square of San Ginés with a tasting of Cartagena michirones.
