Next Saturday April 29 will take place in Cartagena the Spanish Championship of Clubs First Division of Athletics.
The event, organized by the UCAM-Cartagena with the support of the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena, was presented this afternoon to the media by Councilman Ricardo Segado and the president and technical director of the club, Juan Alfonso García And Patricia Paz, respectively.
Ricardo Segado stressed the importance of this meeting, as he is the first in the national league and "will serve to measure the possibilities of our athletes, men and women, during this season."
The Cartagena Athletics Municipal Court of Ronda del Ferrol Avenue will host this new athletics event, which will involve 250 athletes, who will be accompanied by their delegations and relatives.
The participating teams will be:
In men: L'hospitalet, Bahía de Algeciras, Correr el Garbi and Ucam-Cartagena.
In women: Cueva de Nerja, Feminine Celta, CA Torrent and Ucam-Cartagena.
The tests, open to the public that wants to approach, will be held in uninterrupted hours from 15:00 to 21:00 hours, where you can enjoy all the disciplines of athletics on track and athletes of the highest national and international level.
The council also recalled that this will be the first of three league days, where UCAM-Cartagena will fight for another year to remain in the national first division.
For Ricardo Segado, "it will be a beautiful spectacle" in which the athletes of Cartagena who are located in a high place of the national ranking of the athletics, like the three medalists in championships of Spain in combined tests, Vicente Guardiola, Sergio Llornet and Pablo Diaz, and the outstanding athletes in speed tests, Marta Meroño and Blanca Peñuelas.
The president of the club, Juan Alfonso García, has commented that for Cartagena to host a test of these characteristics it was necessary that there was a club with capacity to organize it, for which there has been necessary help from the Department of Sports;
As well as some clues, such as the municipal ones, that met the technical conditions.
He has also highlighted the character of UCAM-Cartagena's base club, with 500 athletes with a federative record, who will have to fight to stay in the first division, and the work developed by Patricia Paz to achieve such good results.
The technical director, Patricia Paz, has said that playing at home will be an important asset, because all athletes, including 5 of the 15 international players that will compete in this championship, will be able to play.
