One of the most appreciated sections of the Mandarache Prize is the Regional Guest Writer, which aims to promote the most current literature of the Region of Murcia among the young readers of Cartagena.
Following the wake of the last years, again this time the Promoter Group has opted for poetry, selecting the poemario 'The night of the fire' (Huerga and Fierro, 2015) of the murcian Antonio Aguilar.
Throughout this morning the writer has visited the IES Jiménez de la Espada, the IES Isaac Peral and the IES Carthago Spartaria, and has presented his work - out of competition - to students participating in the Mandarache Prize.
In addition to answering questions and reciting some poems, Antonio Aguilar, whose relationship with Cartagena comes long as he was the winner in 1997 of the Antonio Oliver Belmás Poetry Prize organized by the Popular University, has defined himself during the meetings "as a reader , Rather than as a writer.
Books define my relationship with life. "
In addition, the author received an award at the University of Granada, and was a runner-up at the prestigious Adonáis Prize in 2003.
The author has told in his conversations with students how the book was "a reunion with his eagerness both for reading and writing."
That feeling materialized in the book presented in these activities, defining it as a book "of love and metaliterature".
'The night of the fire' reflects this love of reading and writing, and the happiness of being reunited with them.
The book is about a history of concrete love, a story full of voids that are revitalized with the happiness of rediscovering you with love.
The author has confessed that the book focuses mainly on "everyday life, in celebrating the present moment", a matter reflected by the poems.
Antonio expresses to us how the book is an everyday adventure in which we must enjoy the immediate and present moments, those that give meaning to our life.
For the election of the title, the author has told the students how he was inspired by a song, whose name is identical to that of the book, by Cristina Rosenvinge, from his album 'La Dolores', with which the author identified with The narrative of the song and the story recited in it.
In addition, Antonio Aguilar conceives the night as "an intimate and personal space in which the obligations remain in the background and we are reunited with ourselves. It is at that moment that the night burns, as well as our interior."
In the coming months the poet will return to Cartagena to hold more meetings with schools that have requested to read his work.
