Holy Week has meant a considerable increase in the activity of the centers and museums of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, which have experienced a growth in their number of visitors of about 17 percent, which means 2,935 visitors more than in 2016.
"This has been a great year for all of us, the Cofradías, the businessmen and the City Council have made a tremendous effort that has been offset by the increase in the number of visitors," said the deputy mayor and president of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, Ana Belén Castejón.
In total, 20,306 people visited the different sites during the ten days of Holy Week, while in 2016 they did 17,371.
The day in which there was a greater influx of visitors was Holy Wednesday, in which interpretation centers received 3,137 tourists, 1,468 more than on the same day of 2016.
In addition, the open day that was held on Friday Dolores was a success, as 5,431 people visited the deposits, an increase of 887 visitors compared to 2016, and a rise of almost 20 percent.
"With the open day we joined the celebration of Patron Day and the Cartagena responded by going to visit the sites and interpretation centers," said Castejón.
By centers, the one that receives more visitors is the Roman Theater, in total 9,052, followed by the Castle of the Conception, 3,799, and the Roman Forum, 2,596.
With respect to the origin, the number of foreign tourists, which go from 14 to 37 percent of the total number of visitors, rises from 16 to 27 percent
