The City Council ensures that the Environment reinforces its staff to manually clean the beaches of Los Urrutias, Punta Brava and Estrella de Mar (11/04/2017)

The Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Transparency, Good Governance, Decentralization and Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, met this morning with the Minister of Environment, Adela Martínez-Cachá in the Palacio de Aguirre. To deal with the evolution of the tasks of cleaning the beaches of the Mar Menor and the different jobs still to be done.

The meeting has obtained the commitment of the Council to "work together, both the brigades of the City of Cartagena and those of the Regional Government" in the cleaning tasks that remain to be done, said the deputy mayor, Which will streamline these jobs.

A joint effort in which Martínez-Cachá insisted that work will continue, even manually, to finish removing the remains, especially vegetation, that are on the beaches.

In addition, both have wanted to convey a message of tranquility for those who want to enjoy the waters of the coast of the Mar Menor.

They then moved to the beaches of Los Urrutias, Punta Brava and Estrella de Mar, to check on-site the work that has been done and observe the remaining tasks.

"We have been able to see how, having a little patience and working in a cautious way, without hurry but without pause, and with the recommendations of experts, we see that the area is much better," said the deputy mayor.

The tasks to be performed are jobs that require the cleaning of delicate areas by hand, which implies the need for a lot of personnel.

It is about work, both preparation and cleaning tasks, "which are sometimes not seen or valued" and is what today was wanted to show all citizens, said Castejón.

THE ALLEGATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE MINOR SEA WILL BE ESTIMATED

On the other hand, the Minister of Environment, Adela Martínez Cachá, has today transmitted to the deputy mayor that the allegation that the City Council submitted to the Comprehensive Management Plan (PGI) of the protected areas of the Mar Menor will be estimated.

In fact, in practice it is already in force by the implementation of Decree Law 1/2017 on Protection of the Mar Menor.

In this claim, the City Council requested the creation of an area of ​​influence of between 500 and 1,000 meters in which the land was classified as a specific protection, which would allow the development of economic activities and the conservation of the environment to be compatible.

The decree 1/2017 of Protection of the Mar Menor establishes this strip since it limits a first zone of 100 meters in which the restriction is absolute, whereas in the second strip it is conditioned the use of fertilizers and phytosanitary, or what is The same, is committed to a sustainable and non-intensive agriculture, as it has been developing until now.

In this second strip there are areas in which they exceed the thousand meters from the coast protected and others that is around the 500 depending on the run-off and the level of the earth.
