One more year, as every Friday of Dolores, the city of Cartagena celebrates the day of its patroness, the Virgin of Charity.
A day in which thousands of faithful come to the Basilica Minor to bring their offerings, thanksgiving and petitions.
At 11:30 am, the Mass began in honor of the Charity, presided over by the Bishop and in which the mayor, José López, made the traditional offering of the Gold Ounce, dating from 1762 and with which the City Council Makes an economic contribution in favor of the poor patients of the Holy and Royal Hospital of Charity.
An offering that this year reaches 35,000 euros.
The temple was crowded with worshipers.
To them, in his homily, the Bishop invited them to look to Mary, mother of charity and of Cartagena, because "we have no better intercessor than the Mother of Christ, who knows us each one," said Bishop Lorca.
"Mother, look at us with special tenderness and receive the prayers of all the Carthaginians who today want to be with you."
With these words he raised his supplications to the Blessed Virgin of Charity.
"Bless and protect Cartagena," added Bishop José Manuel Lorca, who also asked for the sick, for the victims of violence and terrorism, for those who have died this year and their families.
"Grant us the priceless gift of peace, the surpassing of all hatred and resentment, the reconciliation of all the brethren;
Unity and holiness of all families, "he said.
The mayor has also thanked the patron, who has called "Virgencica de la Caridad", and has asked for the city.
The Eucharist has attended numerous civil and military authorities, the honor court of the Hospital of Charity and devotees of the Mother of Cartagena.
