Since the dawn of Friday, with the procession of the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro, Cartagena celebrates one of its main signs of identity, its Holy Week, and taking advantage of the appointment, the local government has established several areas reserved on the public road for those people With reduced mobility that require it to be able to witness from there the different processions and parades.
Thus, the Cartagena City Council institutionalizes a measure that focuses on a line of action focused on social sensitivity, accessibility and full integration of all groups, following unanimous approval during the Plenary of last February for the establishment Of areas reserved for people with reduced mobility.
This Wednesday, April 5, has already marked the areas to be used for this purpose, which have been painted, bounded and properly marked.
In the approved proposal, which was born with a vocation of continuity, events such as Carnival, Holy Week, the feast of the Three Kings or the feasts of Carthaginians and Romans were specified, as well as others susceptible for their interest in citizenship.
ZONE SET UP IN HOLY WEEK
The measure has been managed jointly by the Sustainable Development area and the Public Road, which have chosen two areas to delimit these spaces.
Thus, one of them has been located in the street of the Park with General López Pinto Square, which will be available every day except for Holy Tuesday.
The other area is located at the confluence of Cañón and Calle Mayor.
During the procession of the Encounter, on the other hand, there will be a limited space this year, unless a safe zone can be guaranteed before the celebration of this procession.
The selection of spaces has been determined taking into account various variables, such as possible evacuation needs, as well as reasons for mobility and accessibility of people who will make use of this option, while assessing the location of chairs established for public In general they already have their locations fixed.
MUNICIPAL COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY AND MOBILITY
In this way, the channels are articulated so that this group can comfortably enjoy the parades and public events held in the city, having a site duly bound.
Thus, this measure is added to others already executed, such as the recent installation of a mobile ramp giving access to the main door of the Palace Hall.
This infrastructure, of a mobile and detachable nature, is allowing people with reduced mobility to access the City Hall through the main door, and not through a side door, as they were forced to date.
Being removable, it allows its use in other events, such as during the Besapié to the Christ of Medinaceli that took place in the Church of Santa Maria de Gracia on March 4.
