The most awaited day arrived for the Cartagena sport and everything came out to ask by mouth.
The VIII Route of the Strengths returned to be referring of the running in the Region and national level.
Runners from all over Spain and even from other countries gathered at Plaza Héroes de Cavite for a day in which, once again, the order, the excellent organization and the festive atmosphere were the protagonists.
At the end, a new name for the story: Alberto Plazas González, the winner of this year, that finished the 53 kilometers of the new route, more demanding than ever, in just over four hours and a quarter.
The events of the 2017 edition began on Friday March 31 in the afternoon with child proof, which passed through the center of the port city, with the climb to Castillo de la Concepcion as a star.
But the most anticipated moment came on Saturday morning.
A salve fired from the Arsenal canyon began a long day that would begin with the solemn flag-drop on the esplanade of the port, in the moments before the departure of the 3,240 participants.
The Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, addressed the athletes before the start to encourage them in this tough test organized by the Marine Infantry School General Albacete and Fuster (EIMGAF) of the Navy and In which the City Council actively collaborates.
The participants, including the mayor of the city, José López, went through an itinerary that covered the main fortresses, coastal defensive batteries, barracks and castles of Cartagena, a military heritage that in many cases is declared of Cultural Interest , And that in certain cases opened their doors to the public on the occasion of this special day.
The castles of the Moors, San Julián, Galeras or Atalaya, the batteries of the zone of Cala Cortina, of Sierra Gorda or of Fajardo and the Wall of Carlos III are only some of the bastions that saw to pass to the corridors of this edition .
As it could not be otherwise, the Route of Strengths also passed through the center of the port city and some of its most important archaeological remains, such as the Forum of the Roman Forum or Cerro del Molinete.
Neither can we disdain the landscapes of the natural environment of Cartagena where the race circulated.
Already in the arrival to finish lived especially exciting moments.
Each participant reached the final line with a different story, his own story, a different story of improvement in each case.
Dedications, tears of joy ... the satisfaction of achieving a goal.
The esplanade of the EIMGAF welcomed the thousands of athletes with a great device in which they did not lack the food, the drink to hydrate and the best attentions.
A military camp awaited all those who needed to undergo physical therapy at the end of such a demanding test.
A good number of specialists were placed in each of the military tents, placed in the place for the occasion.
