The Councilor for the area of ​​Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, attended this Friday, March 31, to the development of the 'Sustainable Energy Region of Murcia' which has been held at the headquarters of the Regional Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs in Murcia , Where the commitment of the Covenant of Mayors, to which Cartagena is attached, has been addressed, as it contributes to greater energy efficiency.
During the event, the Energy Plan for the Region (2016-2020) was published, aimed at all economic and social agents and replacing the Comprehensive Program for Energy Saving and Efficiency in the Region (2010-2016).
In this way, a response is given to the legal precept, as well as due compliance with the energy planning needs of the Region.
The agenda has dealt with the role played by the Covenant of Mayors and represents the commitment of the municipal governments of the Campo de Cartagena region to collaborate in favor of climate action.
Among its objectives is the boost to investments that contribute to greater energy efficiency and the promotion of renewable energies.
In reference to this, the EIB - Elena project has been set out, an initiative that focuses on the need to adopt measures to reduce energy consumption, for example by replacing luminaires.
THE COMMITMENT OF CARTAGENA
The City of Cartagena leads several proposals aimed at promoting a line of action that is based on sustainable development.
An example of this is the participation of the Consistory, through a request made from the Quality of Life department headed by Francisco Calderón, and promoted from the area of ​​Sustainable Development of the mayor, José López, in an initiative presented by the Institute of Development Of the Region (INFO) to accede to a European call to fight against the climatic change from the city councils.
Also, the project, which the City of Cartagena participates as a partner, attended the 2016 call for the Life Program.
It was articulated as a tool that is considered fundamental for the development of plans to adapt to climate change in the municipalities of the Region.
PILOT EXPERIENCE IN CARTAGENA
The pilot experience in Cartagena, with 296,000 euros, will be developed in the surroundings of Ronda Ciudad de La Union and Jorge Juan Street.
The proposal focuses on the creation of interconnection zones of existing green spaces in the area, through hybrid passable spaces shared by the pedestrian and the bicycle, also causing a reduction in the use of private transport.
Existing bike lanes and pedestrian transit zones will be adapted to create shade spaces with green roof pergolas, using native climbing species.
Where possible, wet spaces such as ponds and fountains will be implemented, thus contributing to a reduction in temperature.
In turn, the local government has expressed its commitment to energy efficiency, renewable energy and the reduction of emissions, channeling this action in various proposals, such as the reduction of energy consumption in public buildings;
The renewal of municipal vehicles by others that lead to lower consumption, or the replacement of public lighting elements by luminaries of LED technology of low consumption, among other measures.
