Cartagena is preparing to host once again the European Youth Festival of Greco-Roman Theater, which is celebrating its XXXIV edition this year.
The contest began to take place in the city in 1996 under the direction of the Greco-Latin Theater Institute of Segóbriga (Cuenca) and the IES Jiménez de la Espada de Cartagena, and which has the collaboration of the Councils of Culture, Education and Equality of the City .
This year's edition, which will take place at the Parque Torres Auditorium on March 29 and 30, will bring together more than 3,000 students from ESO and Bachillerato around classical theater.
"Our city meets all the conditions to be the perfect stage of this festival, which fulfills the objective of bringing history and classical culture to young people.
The festival is made up of comic works as well as tragedies, which in itself constitutes a vital teaching for students of these ages, "said Councilor David Martinez Noguera.
On March 29 will be the theater group El Aedo in charge of staging a dramatization of the 'Odyssey' Homer at 12.00 hours and a version of the plays of Plautus, entitled 'Contaminatio' (Aularia and Miles), Which will take place at 5:00 p.m.
On Thursday the 30th will be the group of Komos, who will represent Sophocles' 'Antigone' at 12 o'clock, and in the afternoon 'Plautus'' Casina 'will be performed at 5 p.m.
