The Councilor for the area of ​​Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, held this morning a meeting in the administrative building of San Miguel, with representatives of the Association of Fibromyalgia and Syndrome of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena and Comarca (AFIBROCAR), led by his President, Emilia Barrancos.
During the meeting, progress has been made in the preparations for World Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Syndrome Day, which will take place on 12 May, for which a series of activities are being organized at the City Hall, including the Reading a manifesto.
The objective is to make known among Cartagena people the problems that affect people with this disease.
In this sense, Francisco Calderón has reiterated the support of the Consistory to the celebration of this day, as well as the rest of activities that are carried out from AFIBROCAR.
HYPERBARIC CHAMBER
Francisco Calderón also took the opportunity to explain to the representatives of AFIBROCAR the issues that were exposed to the manager of the Health Area II, José Sedes, during the meeting last Monday, February 27, where he moved the suitability of promoting a study That addresses the benefits of using the hyperbaric chamber in people affected by Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue.
This proposal was assumed by the management of the area of ​​Health II with the aim of advancing in its implementation as soon as possible.
Finally, the option of studying the signing of an agreement with the Department of Sports for the use of the municipal pool for therapeutic purposes by the members of AFIBROCAR has been discussed.
Calderon explained that the idea will be transferred to the councilman of the branch, Ricardo Segado.
For its part, Emilia Barrancos has expressed gratitude to the mayor and the local government for their work and collaboration to improve the quality of life of people suffering from this disease.
A DISEASE AFFECTING 6 PERCENT OF THE CARTAGENA POPULATION
Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects 6% of the population of the Region of Cartagena, which means that there are 12,000 people affected by this disease directly or indirectly.
Chronic fatigue syndrome, on the other hand, is a disorder characterized by intense tiredness that does not improve with rest and may worsen with physical and mental effort.
WORK OF THE ASSOCIATION
AFIBROCAR, founded in 2003, is an organization formed by people who wish to work for the integral health of those who suffer from these diseases.
The association is made up of fibromyalgia patients and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as relatives, friends, collaborators and sympathizers who wish to cooperate with this task.
It currently has more than three hundred members.
The association has, among other aims, to guide, advise and inform the patients of these two ailments and their families, in legal, economic, social, psychological and medical matters.
For this, there are various activities of dissemination, partnerships among associations, yoga workshops, therapeutic dance or home visits.
