More than 550 athletes from all over the country will come to Cartagena on Saturday, March 11 to participate in the Spanish Taekwondo Championship of the Poomsae and Freestyle categories.
A tournament presented this morning at a press conference by Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, the General Director of Sports of the Region of Murcia, Alonso Gomez, and the president of the Taekwondo Federation of the Region of Murcia, José Antonio Solano .
The headquarters of this sporting event will be the Central Wssel pavilion of Guimbarda, which has been hosting national and international taekwondo championships for 30 years, and the scheduled events will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
About 300 children's categories and more than 250 adult categories have signed up to participate in the tournament that will span an age range of 8 to 68 years.
Poomsae and Freestyle are two sports modalities within the taekwondo of exhibition and technique.
In the first the athletes execute a choreography that integrates techniques of defense and attack that must have certain obligatory elements.
The second is also the execution of a choreography accompanied by music and gives total freedom to the competitors in the choice of combinations of techniques, which integrate jumps, somersaults or kicks.
This is a scoring competition for the European Championship to be held in Greece the first weekend of May, data that gives an idea of ​​the importance of it, reported Segado.
"The council wants to contribute to the promotion of sport in the city through events such as this, which attract visitors both for the sport and the tourist value of the city," said the councilman, adding that the organization of This event is a sign that Cartagena is becoming a "pole of attraction of great competitions thanks to its great tourism and sports offer".
In his speech, he thanked the organization of the Federation and the Martial Arts Club of Cartagena.
This is the first time that the Region has hosted a Taekwondo championship in the categories Poomsae and Freestyle, said the president of the Federation of Murcia, which encouraged all sports fans to approach the Central Pavilion that day to witness "a very spectacular sporting event" .
Solano also stressed the importance of this event for the Federation, which presents a "strong and very eager team" and seeks that the taekwondistas of the Region play a good role and enter the list of selected by the Spanish team for the championship Europe.
In this regard, the regional director of sports emphasized the great work being done by the Federation, as the number of licenses grows year after year.
TAEKWONDO NATIONAL PRIZE HEADQUARTERS
Cartagena will also be this weekend, the annual gala of the National Prizes of the Royal Spanish Taekwondo Federation, to be held in the auditorium of the Higher School of Industrial Engineering in the Campus Muralla del Mar of the UPCT on 10 Of March at 20:00 hours.
The event will be attended by the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, the Sports Director of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Ricardo Leiva, and the Korean Ambassador, among others.
