A group of 125 pilgrims over 60 have begun today from the dock of Santiago the port of Cartagena the road to Caravaca de la Cruz.
An activity organized by the Department of Social Services within its winter program of activities for the elderly and disabled, which for several years, and with great welcome, includes a section dedicated to hiking.
The Way of the Apostle has been included in this year's program for the Jubilee Year of Caravaca de la Cruz.
The morning has begun with a mass and the delivery of credentials to the pilgrims and the sealing of the exit.
Later they have moved to the dock of Santiago, where the mayor of Cartagena, José López, and the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, have come to bid them farewell and wish them a good road and the best of the routes.
Lopez has taken the opportunity to remember the importance of this starting point, which is according to tradition the "zero kilometer of the road of Santiago and where the light of the gospel came", and encouraged them to be known through them from this Place of which the apostle Santiago departed in its evangelical work.
With regard to this route, sometimes unknown by the pilgrims, the mayor has lamented that from the councils forget the potentiality of Cartagena.
"That the kilometer 0 of the road to Santiago departs from Cartagena and is not taken into account, it is something that is not understood", and this is not intended to make an empty claim, but to "put into value something that has value By itself, "he said.
The pilgrims begin today stage 0 of this route, in which they have walked from the church of Santa Lucía to the church of San Fulgencio in Cartagena.
Tomorrow they will start the first stage, which will take them from the neighborhood of Los Dolores to Los Martínez del Puerto.
There will be a stage of the road every Wednesday.
The last one will take them from Bullas to Caravaca de la Cruz on April 5, after which they will attend the mass of the pilgrim.
A GESTURE OF UNITY
The mayor has taken to remember the offer made to the President of the Region and the 44 mayors of the municipalities of Murcia to make the road to Caravaca each on his own and finish it all the same day and at the same time to listen together the mass pilgrim.
He has proposed as a date the day of Santiago, and has indicated that it would be "beautiful to vertebrate the Region, so that we do all the municipalities something together" so that these gestures give "small steps for the benefit of structuring."
In any case López has assured that it will arrive at Caravaca, after making the way, the day of the patron of Spain.
In addition, he has committed, if the agenda allows, to make the last stage with the elders and attend with them the mass of the pilgrim.
CURRENT ISSUES
Asked by the media, the mayor also spoke about the appeal filed by Federico Trillo regarding the declaration as a nongrata person and about the statements of the prosecution regarding the contract of the former government team with the managers of the El Batel Auditorium, among other issues.
