Andres Lledó with a beginning of hypothermia and loss of sensation in hands and legs by freezing was forced last Saturday to make the hardest decision for a runner, to abandon the extreme race Ice Ultra in which he competed since last February 24 and that Travels 230 kilometers through northern Sweden over five days.
The Cartagena athlete started very well in the race, placing in second place during most of the first stage after the Spanish rider Vicente Juan García.
Lledó finished eighth after the first day after almost 10 and a half hours of hard crossing under cold Arctic winds to cover 50 km in which crowning two mountain tops and crossing an icy lake.
However, at that same stage, after 45 km to the limit, with only 5 km to reach the finish line had to be evacuated by the organization to the nearest medical point to be treated hypothermia and freezing with loss of sensibility in hands and feet.
Finally decided to abandon the test and not take the start on Saturday.
Lledó, accompanied at all times by members of the organization of the race, who have been by the corridor, went to the nearest hospital to treat his hands to avoid future complications and accelerate recovery.
