The councilor of the area of ​​Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, visited this morning the facilities of the Hospital of Charity, accompanied by the president and the board of directors of the Association of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Cartagena and Comarca (AFIBROCAR).

It is important to remember that, on 8 February, Calderón held a meeting with the Brother Major of the Holy and Real Hospital of Charity 'Los Pinos', Jose Vera.

In this meeting the foundations were laid to foster a collaboration agreement between the Hospital and associations of the municipality and in which the City Council would act as an intermediary.

This agreement would be articulated to obtain that the entities that require it can use the hyperbaric chamber in order to obtain the valuation of clinical studies related to certain diseases.

In this sense, Calderón has facilitated this visit so that the managers of AFIBROCAR know the possibility of the use of the hyperbaric chamber for the benefit of those affected by this disease.

Next Monday, the head of Health of the City of Cartagena, will hold a meeting with the manager of the area of ​​Health II, José Sedes, which, among other things, will transfer the suitability of promoting a study, conducted from rheumatology and internal medicine Of Hospital Santa Lucía, which addresses the benefits that can cause the use of the hyperbaric chamber in people suffering from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

HYPERBARIC CHAMBER

The hyperbaric chamber, 1976, is the only passenger compartment of this type in the Region.

It has been providing service for four decades and, in recent years, has been a victim of health cuts promoted by the regional administration, which has resulted in a significant drop in service, drastically reducing the number of Patients treated, as denounced by the councilman of the area of ​​Quality of Life.

Hyperbaric medicine makes it possible to optimize the quality of life of patients, especially those suffering from pathologies that can benefit from the therapeutic principles offered by the cabin.

Examples are those related to traumatology, psychological dysfunctions, hearing or vision, among others.

Among its main uses are also the treatment of decompression syndrome of divers, carbon monoxide poisoning, burns, diabetic foot or anemia

Also, in this chamber can develop hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which allows the increase of oxygen transport in the blood, reactivating physiological mechanisms depressed by its deficit.

AFIBROCAR

AFIBROCAR, founded in 2003, is an organization formed by people who wish to work for the integral health of those who suffer from these diseases.

The association is made up of fibromyalgia patients and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as relatives, friends, collaborators and sympathizers who wish to cooperate with this task.

It currently has more than three hundred members.

The association has, among other aims, to guide, advise and inform the patients of these two ailments and their families, in legal, economic, social, psychological and medical matters.

For this, there are various activities of dissemination, partnerships among associations, yoga workshops, therapeutic dance or home visits.
