The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has today launched a contest of ideas for its new School of Architecture and Building.
A jury of thirteen members, including architects of national prestige, will evaluate the anonymous proposals presented to commission the winner to draft the works, which have a budget of six million euros, from FEDER Funds And own the UPCT.
The rector of the Polytechnic, Alejandro Díaz, and the Minister of Education and Universities, María Isabel Sánchez-Mora, have toured the campus of Alfonso XIII and the buildings that will be remodeled for integration into the new training center for architects and Building engineers of the Region of Murcia.
The Higher Technical School of Architecture and Building (ETSAE) is currently based in one of the three original buildings of the Campus Alfonso XIII, built in the 60s of the last century.
The needs of the School exceed the capacity of this building, so that teaching and laboratories are spread over five other buildings on different campus of the University.

"The commitment of the UPCT with criteria of economic and environmental sustainability impel this contest of ideas, which seeks to reuse two existing buildings, proposing a joint use of both through articulation and connection actions that determine the best project among those presented To the contest, so that the entire edified set of the School acquires unitary character, "he added.
The overall budget for the rehabilitation, extension and connection of the buildings will be six million euros, including VAT.
These funds include the corresponding ERDF Funds committed for the execution of the School of Architecture (1,950,000 euros).
The rest will be executed with own funds of the UPCT.
The fees for the drafting of the Basic and Execution Project, as well as the Faculty Direction, Execution Direction and Coordination of Safety and Health in Works amounted to 364,523.09 euros.
