February 27 marks the 480th anniversary of the creation of the Marine Corps, the oldest in the world, and to share this event with citizens, the Marine Corps units in Cartagena have organized a series of events for this Thursday 23 February.
The Esplanade of the Port will host that day several events, which will be attended by the mayor of Cartagena, José López.
Thus, at 18.00 hours there will be an exhibition of the Tercio de Levante Cinológica Unit, which will demonstrate the high level of training of the dogs that serve in this Unit (detection of drugs and narcotics, detectors of mines and explosives, Security and combat).
Then, at 1840 hours, there will be a dynamic exhibition of the students of the Marine Infantry School "General Albacete y Fuster", showing the level of training of those who are preparing to become Marines.
Finally, at 19:15 a Solemne de Bandera will be celebrated, with the participation of a Company of Honors and the Band of Music of the Third of Levante.
The age of Marine Corps is fixed on February 27, 1537, justifying itself in various historical events during the reigns of Philip II, Philip V and later.
In this way, the date that celebrates its anniversary is established, an institution with which Cartagena has been maintaining an intense relationship, hence the Marine Corps will now extend to Cartagena the invitation to participate in these commemorative acts .
