Almost 4,000 students of institutes participate today in the program of educational innovation 'Retame and I learn' (20/02/2017)

The students face 5,000 questions elaborated and adapted to the educational stages of Secondary and Baccalaureate

The online contest 'Retame and I learn' of educational innovation in institutes in the Region has begun today with 3,835 students enrolled in Secondary and Baccalaureate.

The educational program is promoted by the Ministry of Education and Universities with the collaboration of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).

The game was activated at midnight and at 26 seconds the first challenge was launched.

"She was a high school student from IES Jiménez de la España and had a very clear mind despite the time, achieved a full seven hits," says Mathieu Kessler, Vice Chancellor of Information Technologies and Communications.

"In the first hour, until 00:59, sixty challenges were launched across the Region," adds Kessler.

The rival of the girl who launched the first challenge was Cristian Meroño, from his own institute.

"As soon as I received the notification of the challenge to the mobile, I answered, but I failed to ask any questions", recalled this morning the student of 1 ° Bachillerato.

However, he has won the rest of the challenges he has launched this morning and leads the ranking of his institute with Andrés Álvarez and Isabel Martínez.

"We had a free time and half of the class were playing 'Retame and I learn'", recognizes Andrés.

"It bites you a lot and then you spend all your lives," Isabel admitted.

"It is not so much a matter of winning as playing with fellow students of the institute and you also get extra knowledge of general culture and subjects that we will examine in Selectividad", said these students of the IES Jiménez de la Espada, which with 234 participants is the Center where more students have enrolled.

Of the questions, they emphasized that "those of mathematics are of scare or death".

This action is coordinated at a technological level by the developers of the Digital Content Production Center of the UPCT, which have visited more than twenty institutes throughout the region promoting enrollment among students.

Participating students belong to 57 educational centers.

Winning awards include scholarships to study in London and mobile devices such as iPhones, tablets and laptops.

The Director General of Educational Innovation, Ana Millán, stressed "the important reception of this educational program in the institutes, to reinforce through the game, among students the knowledge of core subjects."

'Rétame y Aprendo' tests students' knowledge in seven different subjects: mathematics, language and literature, history, physical education, English, biology and geography.

Each student participant will do ten challenges, with seven questions each, answering 70 questions.

The program is developed through 'UPCTplay', the platform of games applied to teaching developed by the Polytechnic of Cartagena.

The web to access the contest is http://retame.upct.es/ and counts on a total of 5,000 questions elaborated for students of Secondary Education and Bachillerato.

The program is divided into two categories: one for students in grades 3 and 4 and the other for students in grades 1 and 2 of Baccalaureate.

And it consists of three phases;

In the first one the students of each institute compete with each other in an online way.

The two best students from each institute will go to the next phase.

In the second phase, the classified will compete 'on-line' between them and will pass to the Grand Final the 32 best students.

The last phase will be face-to-face and will take place in March.
