The mayor of Cartagena, José López, met on Tuesday, February 14, with the president and vice-president of R-Inicia-T, Gustavo Tapioles and Felipe Martín, respectively, who have exposed to the mayor the recent creation of this A collective that works for the treatment of aggressors of gender violence, an innovative project in Spain that exists only in Cartagena, in the Basque Country, and that follows a system of work that has an 80% effectiveness without relapses.
In this sense, the president explained that they will work to "alleviate all this problem for which more and more people die" and has explained that the aggressors follow him do not relapse in their practices in 80% of cases.
Thus, this team welcomes individuals who require it, does an individual treatment through a cognitive restructuring and the study of family patterns, and then move on to a one-year group treatment phase.
Tapioles has assured that treatment in women who suffer abuse "is very important" but "if we can work with the aggressors and prevent another woman from dying, it will make sense to do all this work."
The mayor, who has been the first person to whom the project has been exposed, has seen "the importance of this work".
After this meeting, the leaders of the association will meet with the councils of Social Services and Equality, in addition to penitentiary institutions.
The work of the association will not be limited to the Cartagena area, since "the intention of the association is to prevent gender violence and protect women," although "we would like Cartagena to champion this new work."
THE 'KEY' PROGRAM
The program with which R-Inicia-T intends to collaborate with the institutions in the search for the eradication of gender violence, has been called 'La Llave', and is intended for people convicted of crimes related to gender violence on Those that have been applied or the possibility exists of applying an alternative measure of psychotherapeutic treatment in a context of freedom, whether or not it is monitored;
Persons who have been denounced for this crime and are awaiting trial;
Persons who have not been denounced, request to participate, prior assessment by the professionals, as well as those who are serving sentences in penitentiary establishments for crimes related to gender violence and request their adherence to the program.
Thus, La Llave is a program of educational and psychotherapeutic nature, which seeks to preserve the physical and psychological integrity of the victims by means of therapeutic work with the aggressors or potential aggressors and to develop awareness activities for the general population.
For this, explained the vice-president of R-Inicia-T who aim to achieve a series of objectives such as achieving accountability on violent behavior;
Acquiring aggressive attitudes;
To obtain the abilities, attitudes and behaviors consistent with the responsibility and the absence of violence in the relations and to implant the spirit of the egalitarian man in our society through formative and informative actions.
