The mayor of Cartagena, José López, and the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, met this Friday in the administrative building of San Miguel with the director of building Dragados, Javier Lopez, as well as the director of the technical department of this Company, Guillermo Muñoz, to approach solutions that allow to open the Palace of Sports with all the guarantees.
During the meeting, which has developed in an atmosphere of cordiality, López and Segado have reiterated the municipal will to open the facility, even in phases, in the shortest possible time, in addition to wanting the company to show with facts its Intention to respond to the deficiencies presented by the Palacio, working together with the City Council to that end.
The Palace requires, in order to open it with all possible guarantees, to solve the problems presented by the pavement of the track, as the report issued by the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV), dated January 2017, qualifies it as Not suitable for the boat of the ball.
In addition, other issues related to leaks, the condition of the pool, accessibility or finishing of the work, among others, have to be solved.
During the meeting with the people in charge of the company, López proposed to visit the Palacio de los Deportes to study solutions on the ground to the pending aspects to solve for the opening of the installation, attending the first edil accompanied by the Councilor for Sports;
The general director of Infrastructures, Manuel Nicolás;
Municipal technicians and representatives of Dragados.
The construction of the Palacio de los Deportes began in 2006 with a budget of 14 million euros and an execution period of 18 months.
More than ten years later, the cost has already risen above 20 million euros.
