On Thursday, February 2, veterinarians from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment of the Autonomous Community and agents of SEPRONA have carried out a surprise inspection of the premises of the Center for Reception and Treatment of Domestic Animals (CATAD), in which Have certified that the facilities of the center meet the correct hygienic conditions and that there is no evidence of mistreatment in the animals.
Thus, the reports made by both institutions attest that the facilities "are in good hygienic-sanitary conditions" and that "the animals are in good state of cleanliness, not observing in any of the same present injuries or poor health" .
This surprise inspection has been made as a result of a complaint filed in the Civil Guard of Cartagena last December.
On the other hand, the manager of CATAD, David Cervantes, has informed the technicians displaced to the center that the City has had a budget item for the acquisition of a series of blinds "that serve more shelter to the animals in their Cages (shillings).
In this sense, the general budget of the City of Cartagena for 2017, initially approved in the municipal plenary of last January, includes a line of 50,000 euros to optimize the service provided by CATAD.
In this way, it is planned the conditioning of both the esplanade and the cheniles that welcome the animals.
This last action is destined to procure the best conditions of habitability of these spaces, as well as their protection before the different meteorological situations.
The current census of the center shows that in the CATAD facilities there are a total of 136 dogs, 16 cats and 14 birds, between fighting cocks and peacocks
