Díaz Morcillo announced during the act of St. Thomas Aquinas a new plan to support R & D & I 2017-2020 and the development of the Chairs Network
The Rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, today called for the idea of ​​a public university that generates professionals and knowledge to guide the drafting of the new Regional Law on Universities and Science Plan, which wants to launch the regional government.
Díaz Morcillo believes that these are two instruments that will be profiled in the coming months and that "can mark the life of the public universities of the Region of Murcia" at least in the next 10 years.

During the event, the Rector of the Polytechnic of Cartagena has shown pride in the university community: "The prestige of a university is in the professionals who form it.
There is no greater reward for a rector than to listen to an employer how happy he is with students at his university.
And this, fortunately, is happening very often in our case. "
Díaz Morcillo has been addressed to students who have been distinguished by assuring that they are "the best ambassadors" of the UPCT in the world of the company.

He also highlighted the new figure of teacher who innovates in teaching and science, undertakes and disseminates, adapts its materials to other languages, away from the teacher-researcher binomial.
In this sense, has also addressed the new doctors of the University, which has recognized their effort and sacrifice during the thesis.
This year the UPCT has 63 new doctors.
During his speech, he had words of praise to his predecessor, José Antonio Franco, rector between 2012 and 2016, and to which he has given the UPCT Gold Medal.
"During his tenure, the Spanish university was in deep crisis, but the UPCT with Franco achieved outstanding results in fundamental aspects such as research and transfer," he stressed.
On the other hand, he congratulated the people, institutions and companies that have received and sponsored the awards of the Social Council.
This year, Du Pont Ibérica has stood out "as an example in collaboration in research and innovation projects with researchers from the crop protection group".
In addition to them, he has cited Hidrogea as the company that "has been collaborating in the last years" on the employability of UPCT graduates.
The Rector has expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of Manuel Torres, President of the MTorres Group, as Doctor Honoris Causa.
He has highlighted attributes such as training vocation, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and dissemination, which he considers to be in line with the profile of the current university professor.
In his speech he thanked the presence of Pedro Antonio Sánchez, president of the Community, as it is the first time that a regional president attends the academic act of St. Thomas Aquinas at the UPCT.
