The Mayor of Cartagena, José López, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, and the Councilor for Decentralization, Juan Pedro Torralba, participated this morning in the meeting of the General Council of La Manga Consorcio.

The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of this body in the Stella Maris building in La Manga, has addressed various management issues including the presentation of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy EDUSI for the Mar Menor which has European funds.

The meeting began with the approval of the General Account for the 2015 Budget, as well as the Draft Budget for the current fiscal year.

The financial situation foreseen for 2017 has also been reported, as well as the progress report made since the last meeting.

On the other hand, participants have proposed that the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) study the possibility of creating an intelligent path in La Manga, similar to those created recently on modernist and university buildings.

Thus, the University of Cartagena is responsible for developing a digital application for mobile phones and other devices, through which access to information on places of interest by means of QR codes.

Also approved is the proposal made by the mayor of Cartagena to send the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) of La Manga to the Ministry of Development of CARM, from the Consortium.

The objective of this communication is that, under the regional budget of this year, the measures contemplated in this document, which reflect the need to promote a global mobility plan in La Manga, will be implemented.

These initiatives would alleviate the congestion of traffic that the coastal town suffers in times of great influx of vehicles, also reducing associated air pollution.

Regarding this plan, López has indicated that the Consistory has "advanced part of the sustainable strategy" that has been carried out by the Chair 'Municipal Infrastructure Municipal Council of Cartagena - UPCT'.

López explained that in the area of La Manga "mobility is very important" and that, for this reason, San Javier and Cartagena share "common interests".

It is worth remembering that during this year the regional administration will have over three million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the development of the Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) in La Manga.

La Manga Consorcio is a public entity whose purposes are to manage the conservation and maintenance of public use and public services that are ascribed to it;

Guarantee the reception in equal conditions of services and activities of local interest and the carrying out or commissioning of studies and projects for their improvement, among others.
