On the morning of this Friday, January 20, the work table of 'Cartagena, cardioprotegida city' has been set up, a project promoted by the Department of Finance and Interior, Human Resources, Citizen Security and Public Road, of which it is Holder Francisco Aznar.
The constitution meeting was also attended by the heads of the different councils most involved in it, as well as representatives of the various entities and bodies that are also part of it.
On the part of the City of Cartagena have accompanied to Aznar the councilman of the Area of Quality of Life, Health, Consumption and Environment, Francisco José Calderón;
The Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado;
And the delegated councilor of Culture, David Martínez.
The councilor of Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, was not able to attend, to be in Madrid, promoting the city in FITUR.
The head of the Area of Quality of Life, Health, Consumption and Environment, Francisco José Calderón, has indicated that this project will be "all councils in a transversal way" and that this meeting has dealt with issues relating to "Different types of defibrillators" with which the facilities of the city are being provided, "training for different groups in the municipality," as well as "people who have to take charge of the use of these equipment."
It has also been discussed, as the mayor said, about the distribution of these "in an intelligent way in key points", ie "where, how and how they are to be placed, so that Cartagena is a city Cardiosaludable ".
The concept of cardioprotected city, or cardioprotected space, alludes to any place where any person who needs it can be attended immediately because he / she is in a situation of cardiac arrest.
The experts in the matter indicate that this implies that they act in less than four minutes, and that is what allows the presence of these devices in this type of spaces, which is vital for the survival of the patient, since the equipment of Emergency, due to logistical circumstances, rarely manage to arrive before 12-15 minutes, which makes it difficult to recover the affected person.
With the implementation of this project effectively Cartagena is placed at the forefront of security at the cardiovascular level, putting itself at the level of pioneering cities such as Girona or Altea and surpassing others such as Pamplona or Barcelona with this comprehensive and transversal plan.
Among the actions that have already been carried out in this area are already taking courses by the Public Security School of the City of Cartagena (ESPAC) as a center approved to impart them.
On the other hand, the Sports Area has more than 25 semiautomatic external defibrillators (DESA) distributed by its various facilities, joining the 20 that has donated the Federation of Soccer of the Region of Murcia for the football fields of the municipality ;
Also the Area of Prevention has installed some in municipal offices and the Department of Interior has acquired another 15 for the posts of Beaches attached to Civil Protection.
In this way, the total number of municipal facilities equipped with semi-automatic external defibrillators (DESA) and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) are already 52.
In addition, we are already working on a website of the plan that includes all the information about this and to take the training on the use of these devices to the schools with a pilot program that will be tested in two elementary schools and in two other centers of Secondary school, and then implanted in other schools in the city.
In the same vein, it is planned to create in the future the 'Office of Cartagena, cardioprotected city'.
In addition, it is intended to create a seal of quality for the businesses that are attached to this project and decide to be part of it.
