Before the start of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, the president and spokesman of MC, Jesus Giménez, said that "the promotion of the Mar Menor, a unique ecosystem in the world, and the Campo de Cartagena as a tourist destination , Is not only necessary but obliged, "but, given the deteriorating state of the salt lagoon, Giménez has stressed that" it must be focused in a professional and rational way, as was raised at the meeting of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Region that attended citizens, entrepreneurs and politicians of the riparian municipalities.
The president of MC has drawn attention to the fact that "the Mar Menor is not in need of promotion, but of attention, care and vigilance", recalling that "at that meeting it became clear that this would be done by the CARM, after Cachá's counsel has committed herself to opting for other ways of promoting the same destiny. "
Giménez has denounced "the flight forward", carried out by the regional government, and that "we have not worked to offer the charms, many and varied, of the Region of Cartagena and has chosen to sell an idyllic image of the Mar Menor, Very far from reality, which can be seen at the regional stand at FITUR. "
From the Cartagena formation it is argued, in relation to the action of the autonomous administration, that "it gives the impression that, once again, work is being done on the contrary since, linked to the destination of Cartagena, it is possible to offer practically all tourist types , Also the 'Sun and Beach', but without needing to make explicit mention to the Mar Menor by the state in which it is.
"Fortunately, our Region has much to offer and is perhaps the most attractive in the Mediterranean, whoever is not able to promote and offer this diversity, should step back and not abound in political propaganda far from reality," he said.
In this sense, Jesús Giménez has stated that "since MC we understand that the City Council present and support heritage tourism initiatives such as the Year of the Enlightenment, our holidays, Carnival or Roman Forum, religious tourism with our Holy Week, diving, Hiking, MICE tourism and, in general, all activities aimed at making our town and region attractive without having to resort to the sun and beach in the salt lake, in an exercise of responsibility with our tourism industry, our citizens and the environment " .
In MC, Giménez concluded, "we support the work of the City Council and all those who work seriously and rigorously for the recovery of Mar Menor, to guarantee the future of this ecosystem, with the benefit that this will suppose us all and, for Of course, to the tourism sector, but they will never find our support to promote policies designed to make up the situation or deny the greatest, since that has happened for decades and the result is a Mar Menor sick and politicians debating solutions from ignorance or, worse Still, with closed eyes and without wanting to attend to the reality of things ".
