Last day to taste the octopus Cartagena in the streets of San Anton and last day of Easter as the saying goes.
The celebrations of San Antonio Abad, San Antón, with more than 150 years of tradition in our city, have today put an end to ten days of activities in the neighborhood for their patron saint festivities.
A festive day in which hundreds of people have come to honor the saint in the traditional mass in honor of the patron saint of the neighborhood, and of course to bless their animals in the square of the Church.
With a bullseye floreada by the streets of the neighborhood, sponsored by the Department of celebrations, has given the start signal to the day.
At 11 o'clock in the morning many Carthaginians came to the church of San Antón to honor the saint in the solemn mass of the feasts presided over by the episcopal vicar, José Abellán, and attended by the mayor of Cartagena, José López, Councilor of Festejos, Juan Pedro Torralba, Councilor for Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, Councilor for Transparency, María José Soler, Regional Assembly Speaker Rosa Peñalver, and Minister for Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martínez-Cachá.
At the gates of the church several women sold blessed rolls of San Anton, which some rogues 'stole', according to tradition to find a partner or keep the spouse in love.
The square has been filled with people with dogs and you could also see some cat, some iguana and several birds.
Of course, and as is tradition, many horsemen have also come in their ornate mounts and several carriages drawn by beasts, also decorated for the occasion.
When the celebration is over, the new parish priest of San Antón, José María Gómez, has left with the hyssop to the square, his first blessing of the animals.
First the horses and carriages have paraded in front of the small church box so that the beasts were blessed.
Prizes are then shared between the mounts with the finest finest and the best decorated horse carriages.
Finally, the hundreds of people who came to the square with their pets were approached to receive the blessing of thanksgiving for the animals.
The party has continued in the casino with the Great Dance of the Vermú enlivened by the Nerea Group, and to which have been approached several municipal authorities.
The events in honor of the patron will continue this afternoon with the procession of the Saint through the streets of the neighborhood, scheduled for 18:00 hours.
At 10:00 p.m., a large plot will put an end to the patron's great day, ten days of feasts and Easter.
