Thus, the first two designed paths, although progressively will be added more, are the modernist and the historical buildings rehabilitated as headquarters of the UPCT, which includes the Marina Hospital, the Antigones Barracks and the Barracks of Instruction for Mariners ( CIM).
The plaques that have been installed in the urban nucleus to identify them have been made by the students of the Day Center and occupational Prolam, and the information can be obtained through QR codes.
The agreement signed between the City of Cartagena and the UPCT has allowed the university to receive from the Consistory the amount of 22,000 euros that have allowed the development of this mobile application that seeks to disseminate the heritage and promote healthy habits and tourism, using it The new technologies of information and communication.
It is, as the mayor said, "a determined commitment of the City Council because we consider the UPCT as essential for the present and future of the municipality, which has to lead us to the best of the paths and paths."
For his part, the Rector has thanked the Consistory of Cartagena "the close collaboration" that are maintaining both entities and recalled that the initial idea of ​​this project was born in the Polytechnic, in order to connect universities through rural trails And thus encourage sports and healthy activities.
From this idea, raised the possibility that the trails were architectural "given the cultural and architectural heritage of the city of Cartagena.
So, explained Diaz Morcillo, the application consists of an audioguide in which the tourist or citizen can walk through the city and get to know, through text or audio, the history and artistic characteristics of each building or urban element.
One of the creators of the app, Professor and Director of the Occupational Risk Prevention Service of the UPCT, Isidro Ibarra, emphasized the possibilities of the application and has described it as "alive", since "it is being renewed and Although there are only two tours, we intend to have as many tours as cultural, neighborhood or care initiatives we can identify within the city.
In this sense, it has indicated as options of routes that could be added one related to the route of the cover, diverse topics as the Enlightenment or needs of the citizens and has been satisfied with the possibility offered by the application of prolonging an activity of Sports type as is the hiking to a tourist approach that will get within the urban area of ​​Cartagena, while it has shown its desire that the app "not stay in Cartagena" but rather be exported to other localities and connect different Localities, regions or even between countries in the European Union.
"The City Council has been a pioneer in helping us to put this project in motion, hopefully it is a reality," said Ibarra.
TECHNICAL DATA OF THE APPLICATION
At present there are two trails designed in Cartagena.
