The area of ​​Culture and Heritage directed by Ricardo Segado continues the cleaning work, with archaeological supervision, in the Cerro del Molinete.
They began on December 1 and will run until February 15.
In this way, Segado gives form to the firm commitment assumed by the local Government to advance in the conditioning of the deposits, prior to the continuation of the archaeological works.
The works will also serve to assess the state of the remains (among which are a furnace of the XVII century, pavements and remains murarios, as well as stairs carved in the rock of Roman time), protected a few years ago when the Works in the Archaeological Park of the Windmill, and on whose state there are doubts that will dissipate with this evaluation.
In the same way, the municipal archaeologist advances in the elaboration of a report on the state and situation of the rest of plots of Morería Baja and rest of the surroundings of the Windmill.
Once the cleaning campaign in the Windmill is completed, performances are planned in the Amphitheater, Monte Sacro and Despeñaperros.
These initiatives will be executed accompanied by means of detection of possible archaeological remains through georadar, in an action of preventive archeology.
The acts described, which have the authorization of the General Directorate of Cultural Property of CARM, are being carried out with the collaboration of the municipal society Casco Antiguo, interested in inventorying and discovering the hidden heritage in the soil of its property.
It is an action that confirms the will of the local government to continue betting on the recovery of the material and intangible heritage of Cartagena, embodied in actions such as the valorization, in coordination with the Department of Tourism, the site of the Plaza de the mercy.
