The Mayor of Caragena, José López, confirmed this morning to the director of the Conservatory of Music, María Ángeles Bres, that the City Council has acquired plots adjoining the current center, including the existing deterrent park alongside the current facilities, to be able to put it At the disposal of the Autonomous Community and that the expansion and improvement of the facilities can be carried out.
The need for this extension has been one of the issues raised by the director of the conservatory to the mayor, in the meeting that has been held in the Administrative Building.
José López has also commented his willingness to collaborate with the proposal of the Consistory to launch a cycle of concerts scheduled annually linked to the most important cultural events of the municipality such as Carthaginians and Romans or Holy Week.
The initiative of these concerts was started by the Conservator's faculty and members of the Chamber Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra.
According to the mayor, there could be four throughout the year, so that the citizens expect these concerts accompanying each of the events.
Regarding the refusal of the Ministry of Culture to the proposal of the City of Cartagena to create a Superior Conservatory in the building of the former Central Cinema, López has commented after the meeting, to questions of journalists, that the municipal approach was an interesting proposal Which could give vitality and activate the neighborhood, but in any case "we will see what for the end of 2017 have done with the Central Cinema. In addition to these themes, the director has informed López of all the activities the Conservatory carries out in the municipality, from charity concerts to the Chamber Orchestra concerts, formed by Conservatory teachers and alumni of the same who are already studying in The Conservatory of Music.
Likewise, the possibility of creating a large institute where joint teaching and musical education were taught jointly.
Something that is already done in the current facilities integrated in the IES Ben Arabí, but that the mayor indicated that will be "to improve".
The Conservatory of Music of the city currently has 730 students distributed in 19 specialties that are taught in two complexes within the facilities of the IES Ben Arabí.
Currently, many of the students who pass the entrance tests have to stay on the waiting list because there are not enough places available for everyone, according to the director of the Conservatory.
