They were just beginning to scratch the sky Cartagena the first rays of daylight and everything was already prepared for what was going to be a special day.
It was not a Sunday like any other.
The Virgin of the Light was going to be entertained by its parishioners and would leave in romería as it is being tradition in these dates.
A mass in the church of Tallante gave the start signal to a very special day.
After the cult, and after gathering strength thanks to a chocolate with scones that were distributed at the exit of the temple, the hundreds of gathered pilgrims started the route that would take them until the Rambla del Cañar, where they would render the definitive tribute to the Mother of God for whom they feel special devotion.
The journey passed between cheers, salves, chants and fireworks in honor of the Virgin, but the high points of the route would have to be searched at every stop in the houses of the mayordomos and faithful devotees, moments in which the crews sang to Our Lady Lady of Light, impromptu couplets who mixed devotion, petitions for intercession for the health of parishioners, but also seasoned with more mundane criticism not exempt from a great sense of humor.
After a rest in the Corner of Sumiedo, in front of the hermitage of the apostle Santiago, and after regaining strength again with sweet wine, coffee, buns and polvorones, the pilgrims and the Virgin directly led the way that would lead them to Place of El Cañar.
There the festive apotheosis would take place, where all the people congregated shared the mass of campaign and the songs of the diverse crews that until then they moved.
It was a moment of brotherhood that did not want to miss a good part of the members of the municipal government.
Thus, the presence of the mayor of Cartagena, José López;
The councilman of Public Safety and Public Way, and president of District 1, Francisco Aznar;
The Councilor of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba;
The councilor delegate of Tourism, Obdulia Gómez;
The delegate councilor of Portal and Office of Transparency, María José Soler;
And the councilor delegate of Finance, Contracting and Patrimony, Isabel García.
On this very special holiday, there was a good atmosphere among the Carthaginians of the various councils and also with the foreigners who came to know this tradition.
Lunch was shared, truffled with typical products of the land, and a good rice was also shared, which served as the culmination of a beautiful festive day which, however, did not end here.
The Virgin of Light would return to Tallante and, after the last reply and after the last couplets and honors to the Mother of God, a snack prepared for the devotees who were still putting the end to this special day.
