The counselor Violante Tomás visits the residence 'Fuente Cubas' and assures that "they will continue to consolidate social services"
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, attended today the Christmas activities of the residence of elderly people 'Fuente Cubas' in Cartagena and noted that the Community has increased up to 140 percent the places in residences for seniors In the city, passing from the 225 places that had at the beginning of the year to the 541 that are currently offered, and to which the Murciano Institute of Social Action (Imas) contributes more than 5.5 million euros.
"We are making a big budget effort to meet the demand for services from one of the groups that deserves greater protection, that of the elderly, and proof of this is that also have created more places to care for these people In day centers, up to 30 percent more, since currently up to 140 seats of this service are offered, "said Tomás.
In addition, Imas has 17 social centers and recreational centers for the elderly, with a total of 102,450 members.
In the municipality of Cartagena are two of them, which have more than 21,000 members and who have programmed workshops on gerontogimnasia, manualidades, poesía, teatro, intergeneracionales interchanges and painting, among others.
The residence 'Fuente Cubas' has 120 places of residential care and 40 of day center service for elderly people affected or not Alzheimer.
All rooms have adapted bathrooms and have four seats for the special care unit.
In addition, it offers a series of common rooms where nursing services, consultation area, occupational therapy rooms, activities area, gym, kitchen, hairdresser, laundry and offices are provided.
This is joined by a large outdoor garden area, where the elderly can enjoy therapeutic activities and outdoor recreation.
During the visit to the center, Violante Tomás said that "we believe that active aging is vital and is a way to follow, because we give them more life."
Forecasts for this year
The Council of Family this year will allocate to the group of elderly people a total of 82.7 million euros.
Likewise, the expansion of the home help service is being prepared, so that all municipalities in the Region can count on it under the same conditions.
"We will continue to rely on services linked to dependent people, providing them direct care in their own home through specific interventions that favor their permanence and integration in their usual environment and compensate for their restriction of functional autonomy," said the counselor.
The Ministry ensures the quality of the services provided in all the centers of the elderly in the Region, both own and those in which there are concerted places, through the inspection and accreditation service.
