The figure of Mariano Sanz Zabala carried out in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 27, an act of homage on the part of the City council to this mayor who was to the front of Cartagena between the years 1899 and 1901, and that supposed the closing of the Year of the Modernism .
The main hall of the Palace Hall welcomed this event which had a large audience, both relatives of the former mayor, authorities and supporters of the history of the city.
In this way, the Mayor of Cartagena, José López, or the official chroniclers Francisco Franco and Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, the patrimony coordinator María del Carmen Berrocal, the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, as well as representatives of others Political groups such as Álvaro Valdés and Ana Rama.
In the act a review of the history of the city was made through the laying of the first stone for the beginning of the works of the Consistorial Palace and the Graduated Schools in the street Gisbert, that took place in 1900 under the mandate of Sanz Zabala.
Touted by musical performances with the sound of the guitar, different personalities intervened to make a semblance of its historical figure, among them the great-grandson of the mayor Pablo Sanz, who delivered original documents and publications of the time, and where also took place a representation of A story set in the modernist era.
After reviewing the figure of Mariano Sanz Zabala, the mayor, José López, received from the hands of the family the original silver paddle that was used in the act of placing the first stone for display in the Palace.
In addition, a portrait of Sanz Zabala, made by the Cartagena painter Vicente Ros, donated by the family to the City Council for this purpose was placed in the Plenary Hall, next to Alfonso Torres, in 2012.
The mayor of Cartagena, José López, wanted to thank the effort, vision of the future and love for Cartagena de Mariano Sanz, which he described as an example of working tenaciously for the future of Cartagena.
CLOSING OF THE YEAR OF MODERNISM
With the tribute to Sanz Zabala took place the closing of the Year of Modernism 2016, which during the last 12 months has taken many activities to the city to bring this time, its importance and its architecture, to citizens and visitors.
The Mayor, José López, expressed his gratitude to all the people who have made this Year of Modernism possible, describing it as a journey into history, where he has approached the wonderful architectural richness of the city and the characters that made it possible.
The first mayor recalled the need to build a magnificent and prosperous Cartagena, being aware of the responsibility of this legacy to the new generations.
To conclude, Lopez invited to enjoy the last act of Modernism, which will be the pre-grapes of December 30 in front of the Military Arsenal of Cartagena.
