Councilor for the area of ​​Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, has reported on the new measures to be adopted by the municipal government for the recovery and conservation of Roman quarries.
In this way, the City Council will carry out the elaboration of a Master Plan for this deposit, as well as the realization of a campaign of awareness and popularization among the cartageneros to publicize its value.
In this sense, the mayor has ensured that "the municipal government is clear what the historical and patrimonial value of the Roman quarries."
Therefore, as announced a few months ago, the Department of Archaeological Heritage will develop the information and awareness campaign, which will include primary schools and neighborhood associations, with the intention of extending respect for this Monumental heritage.
Likewise, the owners will be identified to deal with them the actions to be performed.
The next step, according to Segado, will be the realization of the Master Plan, including all the actions to be determined and carried out in the coming years "so that all Cartagena can enjoy the Roman quarries in all their splendor ".
VISIT TO THE CITY OF ROMAN QUARTERS
With the intention of knowing firsthand the state of the Roman quarries, declared as a Site of Historical Interest in 1993, Ricardo Segado, together with the municipal coordinator of Historical and Archaeological Heritage, Mari Carmen Berrocal, has Visited the site.
During the tour, which included the municipal archaeologist, Miguel Martín, and the head of the Teaching Department of the Municipal Archaeological Museum, Luisa Saura, have recognized the different sectors of the quarries, checking their current status.
After the visit, Berrocal has indicated that the first actions of cleaning and conditioning of the deposit are being studied by the municipal coordination of archeology with the intention of making a tour that allows to visualize the main characteristics of the same.
