On the occasion of the World Day of Migration, which will be held on Sunday, December 18, the City Council of Cartagena, today welcomed the reading of a manifesto in which has shown the commitment of the Consistory with this social reality.
The manifesto has been read jointly by a representation of the government team headed by the Councilor for the Quality of Life Area, Francisco Calderón and the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín;
By representatives of different associations like Cuqui Rodríguez de Rascasa and Najia Zaazaa of the intercultural center of the historical center;
As well as the coordinator of Social Services, Damián Olmos.
The international day of the migrant is a date that has a double meaning: on the one hand, it is a day to reveal a reality, migration, which affects all citizens, as a necessary manifestation of a living and dynamic world with capacity for Facing the challenges of the future.
On the other hand, it is a day to remember the need for solidarity, integration, coexistence and respect that deserve people, who beyond their geographical, political and historical borders claim their right to be from anywhere.
In addition, the role of women, who are the most neglected and the last to benefit from the opportunities and possibilities of the future, have been highlighted as being the first to suffer any humanitarian crisis.
The manifesto has recalled the need to continue working for integration, solidarity, equality and justice with migrants.
At the end of the manifesto, the words of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban-Kimoon, were highlighted, highlighting the need for comprehensive, coherent and human rights-based responses, guided by legislation and standards And a shared effort to leave no one behind.
In support of this manifesto, numerous representatives of different social action groups working in the municipality, as well as a broad representation of the Municipal Corporation, were present at the Palace Hall, as the spokespersons for the municipal groups Francisco Espejo, Pilar Marcos and Manuel Padín , among others.
