Volunteers from the Ola de Frío campaign, organized by the Department of Social Services, in collaboration with Caritas and the Red Cross, have not been affected by the inclement weather, but have intensified their activity so that people living on the street do not suffer The consequences of the cold and the rain.
The Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, accompanied yesterday the volunteers of Cáritas to know firsthand the work they do.
During their tour, they located six people who do not have housing and who renounced the possibility of attending Hospitality Santa Teresa, which volunteers offered.
"We gave them food and asked them to come to the police station to give them the document that allows them to go to Santa Teresa Hospitality, but they rejected it," Carmen Martin explained.
Volunteers were touring the city to locate the homeless, as on previous occasions fifteen people were found living on the street and in this one there were only six.
"Many of these people do not want help.
They suffer problems that go beyond lacking housing and want to stay where they are.
Specifically, we located a person at an ATM in Urbincasa, which we already knew and always rejects the accommodation, "said Carmen Martin.
There were also four people in the caves of Monte Sacro and one in the arcades of the Plaza Juan XXIII.
The Ola de Frío campaign began in November and will last until March.
Volunteers from Cáritas and the Red Cross, coordinated with the City Council, travel the streets of the city to offer food and accommodation to the homeless.
