Juan Antonio Pedreño, president of the Union of Associated Labor Cooperatives of the Region (Ucomur), announced yesterday that Cartagena will be the venue for the commemorative events of the International Day of Cooperatives in 2017;
A day of encounter between all the cooperativists and those people who have contributed most to the promotion and development of this model in the Region.
Juan Antonio Pedreño made this announcement yesterday in Cieza, where the meeting was held this year, which was attended by numerous authorities.
The Councilor for the Area of ​​Finance and Interior, Francisco Aznar, and the manager of the Agency for Local Development and Employment (ADLE), Manuel Mora, also attended this day.
With the election of Cartagena as its headquarters in 2017, Ucomur recognizes the great bet that the Economic Strategy Area, directed by Ana Belén Castejón, is being done to promote the creation of these new business models in the region.
"Among the measures that my area is promoting to find new sources of employment and boost entrepreneurship, we are very clear that the social economy must occupy a strategic place.
Cartagena, being the second municipality of the Region, does not have a cooperative fabric according to its importance.
We want to bet on this model because experience has shown that it is solid and that it resists better than other periods of crisis, "said the deputy mayor.
The objective of Ana Belén Castejón is to promote the creation of social economy companies linked to sectors such as industry, something that is not being done in Cartagena until now, since cooperativism was traditionally linked to sectors such as education.
The cooperation between the City and Ucomur will materialize shortly in the celebration of a conference on 'Women, cooperativism and municipalism' in February and two training sessions on financial instruments applied to cooperativism.
