The Local Police of Cartagena begins today, Monday 28 of November, a special campaign of supervision and control of the School Transportation and of Minors in the highways of the municipality that will extend until the next 2 of December.
During these days, Local Police agents will intensify inspections on vehicles intended for school and juvenile transport, verifying compliance with the provisions of Royal Decree 443/2001 of 27 April on Safety Conditions in School Transportation and Minors.
The agents will check that the technical conditions and safety elements of the vehicle are those required by the regulations, as well as the special requirements that must be met by the driver himself, such as driving license or driving and rest times.
Likewise, it will be verified that the authorizations and documents that these vehicles must have are correct for the provision of the service.
Compliance with this series of standards depends in many cases on the safety of minors.
Thus, 90% of the accidents that occur during school transportation take place at the time of getting on or off the vehicle, or just in the immediate moments, and in many cases they are abuses caused by a distraction of the child, the School bus driver, or parents.
Inadequate speed and distractions are the main causes of accidents involving vehicles used for school transport.
It is proven that at 50 km / h, which is the maximum speed allowed on urban roads, the chances of a child surviving without any safety measure is practically zero, even at low speed their survival is guaranteed.
For this reason and in order to guarantee the safety of the children, the agents will pay special attention to control that they are correctly seated and fastened with the safety belt or the child restraint device adapted to their weight, size and age.
