The director of the regional observatory of Fight against Social Exclusion of the University of Murcia, Manuel Hernández Pedreño;
And representing the Poverty Reduction and Exclusion Network (EAPN), Mohammed Kebaili, today presented the timetable for a study to be carried out on Thursday night, 24, to conduct a survey of volunteers who will survey people who do not Have a roof and are staying in the street or public places to know the time they are in that situation, their level of education, or their family situation, among other issues.
This study will allow the obtaining of the characteristics of people over 18 years of age in this municipality, according to the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, in the worst of all forms of exclusion, residential exclusion.
This tool will in turn facilitate planning and orientation, from the knowledge of the reality in depth, both preventive and rehabilitative policies designed to remove these people from this situation.
Not only will the social situation of homeless people be investigated, but following the European ETHOS classification of FEANTSA, four types of residential exclusion will be established in the final report: homeless people sleeping in the street;
Homeless people staying in hostels or social entities;
People with residential insecurity, threatened with eviction, problems with the payment of mortgage, or receiving relatives;
And people with inadequate housing, who live in spaces that do not meet the minimum required characteristics (ships, shacks, caves, etc.).
The majority of questionnaires will be obtained on November 24th, although it will also be sought in the economics, social canteens and other places where they can find hidden situations of residential exclusion, since, according to Manuel Hernández, unsafe housing is difficult to capture
In this work, which is being carried out in Cartagena more widely than in other municipalities (the whole region) and has been carrying out field work since April, several associations, listed by the EAPN representative, Mohammed Kebaili: Red Cross, CEPAIM, Home Good Samaritan, Hospitality Santa Teresa, La Huertecica, Murcia Acoge, Rascasa, ACCEM, Alraso or Cáritas, will collaborate with the technicians of the City Council of Cartagena and volunteers of the UPCT and UM in the realization of this study.
Adding the 12 entities, 90 people will be collaborating these days in the accomplishment of this work of gathering information.
The realization of this social x-ray, as it has been named by Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, is of an altruistic nature, and will only require the cost of its paper edition after debugging the questionnaires and publishing the results, estimated for February Or March 2017. A PDF report will also be disseminated to all interested entities.
