The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, visited today in Cartagena the residence of the Guardianship Association of Persons with Disabilities (Astus) in Cartagena, where she recalled that last week the Governing Council authorized the extension of the agreement signed between the Instituto Murciano de Acción Social (IMAS) and Astus to attend 204 places in its day center between 1 December and 30 November next year, amounting to 2,263,000 euros.
The day center has labor training programs, computers, ceramics, cleaning and complements, as well as practices in the Special Employment Center.
Violante Tomás recalled that, in total, the Ministry allocated € 2,892,916 to the care of people with intellectual disabilities in this association because, in addition to the amount allocated to the day center, it also funds the services of the Center for Early Childhood Development and Early Care 'Virgen de la Caridad', the residence 'El Cobijo' and a protected dwelling.
Astus is a non-profit organization, declared a Public Utility by Council of Ministers and constituted in 1967. It works for the family and social integration of people with intellectual disabilities.
To this end, it seeks to improve the quality of life of persons with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy, as well as that of their families through social integration, through comprehensive care that covers prevention, early care, guardianship, housing , Education, occupation, leisure and culture, maximizing their capacities in their centers and services.
